Design Philosophy: We believe that simplicity is a key factor in enjoying the outdoors.  Complicated setups, knot tying, and time-consuming tasks detract from our enjoyment and make it more difficult for new people to transition into an outdoor-loving lifestyle.  Therefor, we make all our designs as simple as possible so they can be deployed and enjoyed quickly and with little effort.  We strive to remove knot-tying, complicated measuring, and lengthy setup processes as much as possible so you can be up and running (or down and relaxing) as quickly and effortlessly as possible.

I took a picture like the one above almost 15 years ago, directly after climbing out of a hammock somewhere on the shores of a backwoods lake in Yellowstone National Park. We had arrived at our backcountry camp earlier that day after finishing a long hike/canoe trek with a group of youth into the backcountry area of Yellowstone. I was warn out and had been enjoying a much needed rest in that hammock. As I turned around to look back at the hammock after climbing out, I was struck by the beauty and magic of it all. Here I was, in a land full of untold adventures, surrounded by a great group of youth and adults, swinging in a hammock next to a secluded lake at sunset. It was a small slice of paradise.

The only problem was, I HAD to climb out of that hammock. I would have stayed longer, but my knees and side were aching so bad because I was just too big to stay there for any real extended period of time, regardless of how "diagonal" I was lying. I just didn't fit in a "standard"-sized hammock. You see, I'm tall. I'm only 6'3", 230lbs, which isn't much really, but I may as well be jolly and green or live at the top of a beanstalk when it comes to hammock camping. I literally didn't fit in.

Fast forward a few decades to when Blue Mammoth Hammocks was born. Between that Yellowstone trip and now I had tried so many different brands, styles, shapes, and sizes of hammocks hoping to find something that worked for me. I felt like I had spent a small fortune, only to come up empty-handed. I had even gone back to sleeping like a caveman while camping (on the ground!). But I just couldn't give up. I loved hammocks too much. That's when Blue Mammoth was born. 

I had decided that if I couldn't find what I needed and wanted, then I would just create it myself. I started working with manufacturers and suppliers to create a hammock that was large enough to fit me, strong enough to hold me, and comfortable enough to keep me. Our 12 feet long, 6 feet wide, SuperSoft Diamond Ripstop Nylon Blue Mammoth Hammock was born, and I literally laughed out loud the first time I lied down in it. I think the first words out of my mouth were, "I'm lying so dang flat I need a pillow!" (Only something a true-blue hammocker would understand!)

I'm so excited to finally have an option that works for me and for all those like me, all those who have missed out, or endured the pain, because they just couldn't find a solution that was made for them. The solution is here and I couldn't be more excited. 

I'm passionate about hammocks, sure, but my real passion is inspiring others. My most favorite thing in the world is seeing the look on people's faces when they discover a new bit of life that was previously hidden to them; something that brings more happiness and joy into their lives, something that puts the light back in their eyes. That is my real passion. And that is what Blue Mammoth Hammocks is all about. It's about inspiring people.
